Memory Trade
Instructions for the leader
Activity: Memory Trade Pair up participants (or form small groups of 3–4). Each person privately reflects on and writes down their top ten favorite memories shared with the other person — moments that made them laugh, feel seen, or feel deeply connected. Pre-Activity Guidance: Frame this as a gift-giving exercise rather than a performance. The memories don't need to be grand or dramatic — small, quiet moments often carry the most weight. Encourage participants to write freely without overthinking, and remind them that vulnerability here is mutual and protected. Structure & Rules: Reflect: Each participant takes 3 minutes silently to jot down their top ten memories with their partner or group members. These can be shared experiences, inside jokes, a single conversation, a trip, a gesture — anything that lives vividly in their heart. Trade: When the timer sounds, partners take turns sharing their memories one at a time, alternating back and forth. The listener simply receives — no commentary, no correcting, no rushing to match — until the speaker finishes their turn. Savor: After each memory is shared, pause for a few seconds before the next one. Let the moment breathe. Timing: 3 minutes for silent reflection, then 7 minutes for trading and savoring memories (aim for 3–4 memories per person). Close with a brief 1-minute appreciation for what was shared.
