Hopes, Dreams, Aspirations
Instructions for the leader
Pair up for a gentle introduction to what matters to each person: a near-term hope, a bigger dream, and a quality they want to cultivate in themselves. Set Up: Invite everyone to find a partner and sit or stand comfortably. This works with any group size; with an odd number, make one group of three and give everyone equal sharing time. Allow about 10β12 minutes, including the appreciation debrief. No props or physical contact are needed. Explain the Three Prompts: - Hope: A short-term wish for the next month or two. - Dream: A big goal you are working toward over the next year. - Aspiration: A trait or quality you want to cultivate in yourself, such as patience, courage, curiosity, or kindness. Round 1 β Hopes: One partner shares a hope, then the other shares theirs. Keep going back and forth if time allows. Give each person about a minute of sharing time before moving on. Round 2 β Dreams: Using the same turn-taking rhythm, each person shares a bigger goal they are working toward over the next year. Give both partners equal time to speak. Round 3 β Aspirations: Each person shares a trait they want to cultivate in themselves. They can also offer a simple example of what practicing that quality might look like in everyday life. Appreciation Debrief: Finish by inviting each partner to appreciate something specific they heard or noticed in the other person. Try: βSomething I appreciate about what you shared isβ¦β or βA quality I noticed in you isβ¦β Allow both people a turn and close by thanking each other. Facilitator Guidance: Keep the invitation light and introductory. People can share something simple, stay general, or pass on any prompt. Encourage listening without interrupting, comparing, or offering advice. Remind everyone to keep their partnerβs personal sharing private.
