The Ego Circus
Instructions for the leader
Everyone stands in a circle around an open “stage” — the middle of the room. One at a time, whoever feels called steps into the center and performs a short scene of the ego in full drama mode: road rage, a heartbreak meltdown, panic over lost money, pride showing off, despair over a spoiled outfit. Play it bigger than life — the more absurd, the funnier. When your scene is done, simply walk back to your spot. Nobody talks, claps, or comments — the circle stays silent until the next person steps in. The silence is part of the game: each scene lands fully, and the stage is always open. The point is not to be a good actor. It is to catch the character that takes itself so seriously. The ego is the part of us that identifies with its thoughts, its body, its emotions, its stuff, its story — and every time we watch it perform, we loosen its grip a little. Laugh with the human condition, never at a person. Keep it light: no scenes still too raw to laugh at, and no impersonating someone else in the room. And know when to fold — one scene too many, and the circus becomes a sermon.
